I do not deny your existence, nor do I feel that you have no right for representation, however, why is it that so many ace people try to define themselves through what they aren’t?

This over-complicates and confuses people. Definitions are not based on what they…

I’m mobile so pardon my short response, but I think you misunderstand what I mean.

Atheist is a person who does not believe in god.

Bald is a person without hair. Healthy is a person without illness. They are still defining what they are. To make these examples akin to what I was addressing, try the following. An atheist is not someone who follows Christ (can imply other gods) Bald is not someone who has hair (could include people with other traits) Healthy is not someone who is sick (could define various other issues such as being overweight) Subsequently, an asexual is someone who is not interested in sex (at least by my personal definition). It is best defined without the structure [word] is not.

But whether you define asexual as “someone who isn’t interested in sex” or “not someone who is interested in sex” its a straightforward definition thats easy to understand by people who are WILLING to understand it.

The only problem I’ve ever had explaining asexuality was to someone who was stuck in the idea that “everyone loves sex” and didnt want to believe there were people out there who didn’t.

My point is, purely definition-wise, its as easy to understand as all those other terms, in that “I’m asexual” is as proportionally appropriate of a response to the question “who/what are you attracted to” as “I’m bald” is to the question “what’s your hair color”

I have a question for the asexual community.

This over-complicates and confuses people. Definitions are not based on what they are not, they are based on what they are. Simply tell people who you are and not who you aren’t and people will understand a lot better. Definition through omission opens up endless possibilities that make a definition useless.

I used to consider myself asexual, but I eventually developed a sexuality. I know not everyone is like this, but I personally identified ace as a lack of interest in sexual activity. I guess you could nudge and say I was aromantic but I personally felt at that time asexual covered my bases well enough. Simpler times, I suppose. Nonetheless, a definition through who I was assisted in others understanding me, and the same could be said for now.

As advice, remember to define yourselves through who you are, and not who you aren’t. It makes things a lot easier for other people, which means that other people will be more understanding of you, and help you through your advocacy.

But what does this mean though
what is unclear about “Doesn’t experience sexual attraction”

LOTS of definitions are based on “what they are not” like “atheist” meaning “not believing in god”, “bald” meaning “not having hair”, “healthy” meaning “not having illnesses”, “naked” meaning “not being clothed” etc.

Gary, you're a wise man. And a close relation of mine does not believe that Iron Man is a terrible, awful person and in no way fuego. Would you be able to explain precisely why he is the worst thing since the black death?

Okay im gunna answer this publicly as the last post i made i forgot to tag fo future reference I hope this helps:

I now present to you: Tony Stark Is a Nasty Man.

  1. Tony Stark tricked Peter Parker into joining him and revealing his identity as Peter Parker during the Superhero Civil War. All whilst stealing Peter’s DNA using a suit he’d made for him. When Peter decided to swap sides after realising Tony was an absolute tosser he had hired supervillains sent after him who almost killed him. (Punisher saved Spider-man at the last minute)
  2. After witnessing his best friend (Rhodey, War Machine) have his limbs blown off he vowed to avenge his friend. He then did nothing of the sort and completely forgot about it. Only Captain America employed Rhodey thereafter for the Secret Avengers.
  3. He profited from the imprisonment and mistreatment of fellow superheroes during the civil war.
  4. Tony, Mr Fantastic and Hank Pym made a robot clone of thor to make people think thor had joined their side. The robot went haywire and murdered Goliath. Thus forcing Sue Storm and the Human Torch to join Captain America because murder is not fun y’know.
  5. Tony Stark ignored all warning of the Secret Invasion from Nova because he was too busy trying to defeat other superheroes. This led to the Secret Invasion and the murder of Wasp and half the initiative.
  6. During Secret invasion he sent out the Intiative to fight. The initiative where a group of young untrained heroes who had no business being in a warzone.
  7. Tony Stark spent 90% of Avengers vs X-men in a hut crying about not being able to do science good. Black Panther had to slap him out of it.
  8. Iron Man tried to pick a fight with Namor near open water.
  9. Captain America beat the shit out of Tony so hard he actually asked to be arrested for it.
  10. He tried to pull Nova into his shitty sinister schemes and ignored his warning about the annihilation wave.
  11. Tony Stark attempted to get the X-men to join him during the Civil War without realising that his side of the argument stood for everything the X-men have been held down by.
  12. He never turns up to important fights after Civil war: Secret Invasion? He was puking and crying. Fear itself? Crying again. Siege? KO’D only contribution was a remote control helicarrier. AVX? Crying again.
